GCISD teams-up against bullying with 2015 Rachel’s Challenge Rally

Students, staff and families from across the district will come together Saturday, April 18 for GCISD's 2015 Rachel's Challenge Rally, Run and Community Fair. Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m. and the Rally kicks off at 8 a.m. Special guest speakers at the Rally include Miss Texas 2014 Monique Evans and Olympic Speed-Skating Medalist Jordan Malone. Following the Rally, the event's one-mile fun run and community fair showcasing 24 vendors will begin. Activities at the Fair include student performances, yoga and zumba sessions, and a climbing wall.

“We expect this year's Rachel's Challenge Rally and Community Expo to be an event that brings our community together,” said Emberly Spillman, GCISD director of counseling.

Rachel’s Challenge, the character education message program adopted by GCISD, empowers children and adults and gives them the tools to combat bullying and harassment. The April 18 Rally and Fair is a celebration and recognition of the many acts of kindness that students and staff have done for each other throughout the school year. Fair-goers will have the opportunity to participate in a 1-mile fun run, visit community vendors, watch healthy demonstrations and student performances, enter to win door prizes, etc.

“The Rachel's Challenge Rally will benefit our students, staff and families by focusing on the amount of kindness and respect our students have expressed with each other,” Spillman said. “It is an opportunity for our students to proudly display their understanding of respect and compassion for others. Additionally, it will bring our community together for a celebration of positive choices and working together as a team. Our Motto this year is 'Stronger as a Team' and we are encouraging everyone to come out and enjoy the day.”

Teams for the Fun Run that pre-register online can compete for the team prizes, such as Most School Spirit and Most Creative. The Community Fair will promote kindness, healthy choices and diversity. Fair goers will have the opportunity to visit community vendors, watch healthy demonstrations and student performances, enter to win door prizes, and much more.
