Pearson Dove Elementary School's Cindy Pearson has been named Teacher of the Year at the Elementary Level for the Texas Education Agency's (TEA) Region 11. The surprise announcement was made during a special awards banquet on July 31.

"The talent, dedication and creativity that Ms. Pearson brings to her students at Dove makes her a phenomenal teacher here at GCISD," said Dr. Robin Ryan, GCISD superintendent. "This is an incredible and deserving honor. I congratulate her and wish her well in the next stage of the state program."

Pearson teaches third grade at Dove Elementary School and recently celebrated her 25th year in education, 11 of which have been at Dove. She has taught elementary music; first, second and third grades; and even served as a Literacy Specialist with kindergarten-sixth grades.

The annual Region 11 awards banquet recognizes all of the teachers of the year from school districts in the north central Texas region. The Teacher of the Year Program, sponsored by the Texas Association of School Administrators, allows districts to submit one elementary and one secondary candidate to compete at the regional and state levels. Fifty-eight teachers, representing 33 school districts in Region 11, participated in this year's competition.

Pearson is now one of 40 regional winners from across the state advancing to the state level of judging in the Teacher of the Year program. Finalists will be announced August 25 and the final state Teacher of the Year announcement is expected October 24. Click here to read the announcement from Region 11.
