The Colleyville Garden Club presents its 20th annual Promenade Garden Tour on Sunday, May 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. On this nationally recognized tour, guests will experience some of the loveliest and most innovative gardens in the area.
When they downsized to a patio home, Jayne and Aubra Palmer created a jewel complete with whimsy, water features, yard art, and as wide a variety of plants as the couple could pack into their diminutive space.
Revising a landscape originally begun in the mid-70’s, Fonda and Reggie Martin have filled their mostly shady yard with a joyful combination of trees, plants and colorful flowers, bubbling water features, comfortable seating areas, and lots of art.
To Adele Claeson, amateur artist, her large, shady yard is a living painting. Doing most of the planning and much of the work herself, she has created a mini-resort complete with winding pathways, lush plantings, and riotous color.
When Tom and Debbie Cowee wanted a garden garden they could simply enjoy, they called for expert advice and over 8 years, their yard has been transformed into an outdoor haven with a meandering stream, pond, and different areas that they can enjoy year round.
Tickets are $12 in advance; $15 the day of the tour. Ticket outlets are Foreman’s and Market Street in Colleyville, Blooming Colors and Marshall Grain in Grapevine, Calloway’s in Hurst and Southlake, and Weston Gardens in Bloom in Fort Worth.
Garden club members and Tarrant County Master Gardeners will be on hand at each garden to answer any questions. There will also be an educational exhibit about being water smart in the garden with information on drip irrigation and rain harvesting.
The club’s popular plant sale will take place at the Martin home and will feature plants that flourish in our area. A raffle for a wide variety of wonderful items will also take place there with raffle tickets priced at $1 apiece or six for $5.
With the focus on different types of gardens, this should be a garden tour not only to remember but one that we can learn from as well. For more information, visit ColleyvilleGardenClub.org.
