Program - WALLY FUNK - Trailblazing Aviator

Wally Funk is a skilled pilot who has logged over 19,600 hours of flight time. Dreaming of being an astronaut, she joined the Women in Space program which was known as Mercury 13. The participants went through rigorous training but unfortunately, the program was cancelled before any went into space. 

After six decades of waiting, Wally realized her dream on July 20, 2021 by being a passenger with Jeff Bezos on Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft. At that time, she was 82 years old and set a record for being the oldest person to go into space. She received her official astronaut wings from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2022. She is now the oldest woman to go into space.

Wally has written 2 books about her experiences, Higher, Faster, Longer: My Life in Aviation and My Quest for Spaceflight. She is happy to sign any copies of her books brought to the meeting.
